As the owner of Soapbox Global Laundry, I am always looking for ways to improve the business and keep the facility running smoothly. Home Depot is one of the stores I use regularly for repairs, maintenance, cleaning supplies, lighting, plumbing parts, paint, and storage materials. Because I have a Home Depot Pro account, I often receive emails and promotions connected to the types of products I purchase for the laundromat. Recently, I received a promotion featuring savings on commercial supplies, tools, shelving, lighting, and maintenance products that directly matched the needs of my business.
I believe Home Depot includes me in a customer segment made up of small business owners, contractors, and property managers. My Pro account allows Home Depot to track my business purchases and recognize that I shop for more than personal household projects. My purchase history includes plumbing supplies, electrical materials, cleaning products, storage items, paint, and tools used to maintain Soapbox Global Laundry. These buying patterns show that I am responsible for operating and improving a commercial facility, which likely influences the type of marketing Home Depot sends to me.
The campaign felt personalized because the products were useful and relevant to my daily responsibilities. For example, a laundromat requires constant attention to cleanliness, lighting, organization, plumbing, and general maintenance. When Home Depot sends promotions for products connected to those needs, it saves me time and helps me plan future purchases. The Pro account also makes the experience feel more business focused because the offers are connected to the way I operate, rather than being based only on general home improvement interests.
This experience showed me how customer information can be used to create more meaningful marketing. Home Depot used my Pro account activity and purchase history to provide promotions that matched my business needs. As the owner of Soapbox Global Laundry, I can apply the same idea by understanding which services my customers use most often and sending them information that is relevant to their needs. Personalized marketing is most effective when it feels helpful, timely, and connected to the customer’s real experience.
